The battle of the undefeated teams in the Southland Conference led to a great game between McNeese State and Lamar at McNeese State on Monday night. Both teams had opportunities to take control of the game, but McNeese State took control in the second half and never let up heading to a 88-69 win to take possession of 1st place in the Southland Conference. Let's take a look at some actions both teams used in the game.
McNeese State - Zone Actions
Lamar used zone at different parts of the game and McNeese State used a couple different actions that led to quality shots. The first action was a basic screening of the top defenders with the wing players. Wings cut to the middle and screened the inside of opposite defenders allowing for the drive from the top.
The second was a ball screen to an overloaded side forcing the wing defender to decide who to guard. In the game it led to a middle pass and an open 3-point look.
Lamar - Cross Screen for Post
Lamar used an action against McNeese State's man defense where a shooter was screened to the corner followed by a cross screen for the post and then the screen lifted into the high post. In the video you will see it used a few times with different players shooting based on the defense and what was open.
